Mental Health & Wellbeing
Conferences are exciting but can also be overwhelming. Taking care of your mental and physical health ensures you get the most out of your AC26 experience.
Plan Your Schedule Mindfully
Don't book yourself back-to-back. Schedule time between sessions to decompress, reflect, and recharge. It's okay to skip a session if you need rest—quality engagement matters more than quantity. Identify quiet spaces in the convention center where you can step away from the crowd when needed.
When moving between event spaces later in the day, consider traveling with a buddy or sharing your location with others.
Stay Fueled & Hydrated
Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. Pack healthy snacks like granola bars, nuts, or fruit to maintain your energy between sessions. Don't skip meals—fuel your body and mind for optimal conference engagement.
Tip: Set reminders on your phone to drink water and take short walking breaks throughout the day.

Physical Safety
Before You Travel
Familiarize yourself with the Kansas City downtown area, including the neighborhoods around the Kansas City Convention Center, Loews, and Marriott Downtown. Review local emergency services and save important numbers in your phone. Share your travel itinerary and hotel information with someone you trust.
During the Conference
Badge Protocol: Wear your attendee badge at all times within the Kansas City Convention Center, Loews, and Marriott Downtown. Remove your badge when leaving these venues to avoid identifying yourself as a visitor.
Use the buddy system. Walk with colleagues, especially after hours or in unfamiliar areas. If you feel comfortable, share your location with someone you trust. If you feel unsafe at any time, connect with NASPA staff immediately. Our team is here to help support your safety and wellbeing throughout the conference.
Conference Essentials
What to Pack
Layered, comfortable clothing: Conference spaces vary in temperature. Pack comfortable outfits that allow for layering. Most attendees wear business casual attire across the spectrum of styles.
Comfortable footwear is essential. You'll be on your feet a lot, so prioritize comfort over style.
Business cards: Bring physical cards or be prepared to share digital contact information for networking opportunities.
Essentials: Phone charger and portable battery to keep devices powered throughout the day, plus a comfortable bag for carrying materials, water, snacks, and conference swag.
